Dashing good stuff!
29 September, 2006gur gur
28 September, 2006Hard Man Harvey, the fresh-faced Gosling, is attempting to establish communications with us.
He is delivering his messages in a series of gurgles and sqeaks, accompanied by some jarring hand movements, and canny facial expressions.
We have a team working around the clock , and we should have a basic interpretation ready within the new 72 hours.
Out.
the alt.punk strikes back!
28 September, 2006Last night I was importing some more of my collection into iTunes, and the ‘Alternative & Punk’ raised its ugly and completely off the mark head again.
The new victims? The Lucksmiths.
(actually, I quite like ‘The New Victims’ as a band name, perhaps something alt.punk)
the genre-fication begins
28 September, 2006Over the last few days I have – as you know – been fighting the good fight against ‘Alternative & Punk’. I’ve been inundated with some great suggestions for new genre’s for my music. You have all been incredibly helpful, and for that I thank you.
I’ve pondered and wondered and puzzled and nuzzled over these suggestions. I have imagined myself sorting through my music in 2 months time, 2 years time, and when Hard Man Harvey is old enough to question my motivations.
And, dear readers, I have come to a decision. I have considered categorising my music based on the seasons, foodstuffs, booze, parts of the house, moods, and much more. And I’m afraid to say, I’ve come up with a solution that you may well declare to be ‘lame-ass’.
alt.punk vs. the World
27 September, 2006Following the advice of the Grunter, I have been thinking of some new genres for my music collection.
His wonderful suggestion of house-area genres is good, but in all honesty, there are too many areas. So I pondered back with the 4 season genres. But even still, that’s four differnt things to think about.
So, my latest thoughts are either: Boy/Girl or Tattoo/Tattooless. What thinkest thou?
for my listening pleasure
26 September, 2006I have spent the last couple of days listening to music of which the celebrated Mr K would not approve.
I have been spinning the alt.country breathy slowness of Spain and their lovely Blue Moods. Simple, with so much space that you have time to breathe between individual strings in a strum.
Also, I have been digging Toronto’s own lo-fi melancholy-man, Hayden. I’ve got ‘Skyscraper National Park’ going round and round and round. I love the simplicity of his instrumentation, and the way he can incorporate humble, honest stories into a song, with a chorus. I am going to get more of his records.
the Genre divide
26 September, 2006A couple of days ago, I decided to have a crack at importing all my music into iTunes. I’m not sure why. The CD’s all live next to the stereo, and the laptop speakers sound crap. But it’s an exercise. And it’s reminded me of a whole lot of musics I had forgotten I owned. Gems like Sandpit, and Oliver’s ‘10 minutes away’.
a happy day
22 September, 2006Today our Clinical Supervisor came to see me with printer problems. No matter which input tray she selected, the printouts were always coming out from tray 3, the Letterhead tray. I solved the problem while she was in a meeting (Microsoft Word had tray 3 set as a default in Normal.dot, which seemed to override manual tray selection, go figure).
Later on, just before I went to get coffee, she came back to see me again, and said a thing that made me smile….
who wants to be a superhero?
21 September, 2006Recently, Mr Seeber put us on to Stan Lee’s terribly silly reality TV show – Who wants to be a Super Hero? (Caution: Link contains Spoiler).
It got me thinking what SuperHero identity I would choose.

19 September, 2006I was playing with Harvey in the kitchen this morning, and looked out the window…
